Nine-day Fringe Festival first for London

Libby Skala, a New York writer and actress, entered the fringe festival because her mother, Mary Shuff, a relative of the Kingsmills, was raised in London.
"It's an opportunity for me to learn a little bit more about my roots," said Skala, who portrays her grandmother in a play called Lilia.
"She was one of the most inspiring women in my life," said Skala, of her grandmother.
Lilia Skala was an Austrian architect who fled Hitler's Germany as a refugee, worked in American textile factories and became an actor. She was nominated for Golden Globe and Academy Awards for her portrayal of Mother Superior in the film Lilies of the Field, which starred Sidney Poitier.
