Actress Libby Skala doing television
interview with Pen Women member

Libby Skala, in her one woman show "Lilia," catures her grandmother, Lilia Skala's theatrical life of her personal journey of escape from Hitler's tyranny and arrival in the United States to begin a new life.

Viewers of Connecticut Cablevision can see this young actress interviewed by local theater critic and Pen Women member Joanne Rochman and view some of the scnees from her original play.

The program will be shown at 7 pm.m Thursdays and 11:30 p.m. Fridays, May 13, 14, 20, and 21, on Public Access channel 77.  The viewing areas for this program are Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport and Wilton.

Skala was raised in Darien and attended Oberlin college.  The tribute is to Lilia Skala who won the Academy award for portraying the nun in "Lilies of the Field," starring Sidney Poitier, who also won an Oscar for his performance.  Lilia has shown to sold out theater houses from Los Angeles to Toronto.

She will be performing the play at the Players Club in New York City on May 25.

The half hour interview featured on "Creative Women Today" is produced by members of the Fairfiekd County Branch of the National League of American Women.  The branch is celebrating its fourth year on the Cablevision channel.  Its popularity has spilled over into other cable areas and can be seen in the Charter Communications and Telemedia viewing areas later in June.

Included in these weekly programs are interviews or round table discussions highlighting women who are working artists, writers, musicians and theater professionals.  Guests share examples of their work, discuss topics of interest and concerns to all creative women in the arts, such as creativity, selling and promoting of their work.

Founded in 1897 in Washington, D.C., as a professional organizsation of women, the league has branches throughout the United States and Panama Canal Zone.  The Fairfield County Branch holds luncheons and networking meetings the first Wednesday of each month.  It awards promising high school women who plan to continue in the arts.
