THEATRE
LiLiA!  -  Piccolo Spoleto

WHAT IS IT?  A touching one-woman show in which playwright
and performer Libby Skala portrays her grandmother, Austrian
immigrant and Oscar nominated actress Lilia Skala.  The inter-
nationally acclaimed piece was selected as "Best Show" at the
Winnipeg Fringe Festival.

WHY SEE IT?  Lilia's thunderous determination makes a
poignant statement as she goes from prestige as Austria's first
woman architect and stage star in Max Reinhardt's theatre to
dregs and disrespect as a factory worker in New York City after
her escape from Hitler's Germany.  An Academy Award-
nominated actress and devoted mother and grandmother, Lilia
had a profound impact on the lives of many who knew her -- in
particular her granddaughter, Libby, herself an aspiring actress
who depicts their touching relationship in this piece.

Buzz:  While not all of us have grannies who've starred
opposite the likes of Sidney Poitier, the bond between
grandmothers and grandchildren is universal.  So call up
your Gram and invite her to see this heartwarming show.
You buy the tickets.  She'll provide the milk and cookies
for afterward.
